eBayeBay is making changes

The recent changes in eBay have been well documented and yet more are sure to be announced in the coming months. These changes could be positive for the eBay community as a whole (removing under performing sellers) but some sellers on the site are bound to be looking for other options.

Some sellers appear to be thinking the changes on eBay may not fit into their specific business plan, or the sellers may find that their business practices no longer fit into eBay's new plan.  A majority of the eBay sellers will continue to succeed on eBay...

In any case, it is always prudent to be aware of other available channels offering auction and fixed priced goods to the public. Diversification is a meaningful term used by more than stockbrokers.

No matter where you list your items for sale, as a seller it is in your best interest to promote your own merchandise online. Just placing an item in a channel such as eBay and hoping it will sell is not the most effective marketing plan. There are many ways to send traffic to your own merchandise, no matter if it is listed on a standalone eCommerce website, eBay or one of the other channels such as OnlineAuction.com.

Promote your own listings with these simple suggestions... Continue reading “Promote Your Products Online – eBay – OnlineAuction.com Blogs – Forums – Rummage Sales” »

Using Press Releases to Promote your Traditional and Online Businesses

Pres Release Marketing

Press releases have been used by marking agencies and advertising firms for eons but they are no longer the tool of high powered and expensive marketing gurus.

You can use online press release outlets like PR Web and Express Press Release to get your marketing message online and possibly picked up by your local or even national news agencies.

Read more about it here: http://allbusinessauctions.com/blog/2008/02/27/google-press-release-tools-for-marketing-rocketplace-ebay-conference-pr-web-based-marketing/

I have just written the article above to show how to write a press release for your business. It details how you should use a newsworthy style and include outside quotes and references. If your press release looks too much like marketing hype it will be ignored.

As a Trading Assistant or Drop Store owner you could use press releases to raise consumer awareness of your services. If you do a charity drive for a local church or sell a very distinct item like a meteor or a Elvis Presley handkerchief for some outrageous amount, you should issue press releases to draw attention to your business and your brand.

Try free or low cost online press release outlets for your business. The long term effects could increase your companies awareness in the community.

New York Times Journalist Learns about Information Marketing on eBay

The New York Times Learns about Information Marketing on eBay

Now - How can your company Benefit from Information Marketing?

The NY Times article by David Gallagher, quoted below is an interesting tale about the sale of a public-domain information product by a information marketing niche eBay seller to a NY Times Journalist.  The story is more than "interesting" if your business is looking for ways to gain exposure, boost revenue, find new customers, or retain older customers.

Public-Domain information products are sold worldwide via eBay and on numerous niche websites. Could your business benefit from information marketing, especially if you own the rights to the information?  Information has always been a valuable commodity, the NY Times article drives home that point in a way which few may first realize.  If a small movie made in the 1950's about a small town in America, which in itself was an advertising vehicle at the time, is worth something to someone somewhere... What do you have in your files which may be worth someones cold hard cash?

What can you take from your company files and turn into a revenue producing information product? Do you have a technical manual for a widely sold and still in use product which is no longer in production?  If you have the rights to that manual you should consider digitizing it and offering it for sale in a eBay store.  Do you have a procedures or sales training manual written specifically for your company or by your company which you no longer use? Digitize and sell that information!

These Information products are sold every day by major manufacturers of appliances, electronics, machinery, automobiles etc etc... Look for an owners manual for your any of your electronics or appliances in your home and you will find them for sale, usually directly on the manufacturers website. These manuals are now being delivered electronically and some companies charge a fee for the information.  This "service" provides continual revenue for the manufacturer. The income from the sale of digitally delivered owners manuals adds up to a significant number at the end of the year.

The goal is not necessarily to make millions of dollars from old information in your files (although that could be possible, depending upon your information). The goal is to gain exposure for your company through your eBay store and to gain new customers by introducing them to your company via your expert information products. If a consumer believes in the information enough to buy it, that consumer has taken the first step towards buying another product or service from your company.

The information products you can sell are low cost advertising vehicles.  They will include more than the specific information the buyer purchases, these information products will also include your present day company message and links to your website.  There is so much to be gained by using this unique and original method of advertising and really very little to lose.  By selling outdated or public-domain information to consumers your company gains a new customer and an opportunity to sell that customer newer and better products or services.  The consumer gains knowledge previously unattainable and a confidence in your company he never had before.

Win Win!

Information products can be sold completely on auto-pilot. Technology is available which will instantly deliver the digital information product to the consumer upon payment. The only significant investment in information products is in the creation of these products. Once they are created and digitized the cost of production for digital information products is zero.  Other forms of delivery such as DVD or CD have associated costs, but those costs are minimal when compared with the benefit.

On eBay, Some Profit by Selling What’s Free

While scouring eBay for interesting Christmas presents a while back, I found and bought a DVD of a film made in 1954 about my home town of Doylestown, Pa. After it arrived I went searching for more information about it — and found the entire film, available as a free download from the nonprofit Internet Archive. Ball Buddies Anyone? Promotional Products Gone Wild!

Ball_Buddies_Trailer_Hitch_Covers_017.jpg

No, I am not being rude!

These are Ball Buddies!

A trademarked promotional product invented and invested in by a client of ours.  Ball Buddies are unique trailer hitch covers which have been pre-set up to accept pad printed promotional advertising.

My client (a retired mother) had the vision to make these and bankroll the entire process from trademarking to manufacturing to fulfillment all on her own.

She did this because she believed these items would and should sell to Universities, Church Groups, Casinos, Retailers, Hotels, Boat Dealers, RV Dealers or any Promotional marketer.

She should have been a little more cautious and possibly she should have done a little more research because in the end she has not been able to sell any of the thousands of units she now has on hand.

This client did all of the right things when it comes to inventing, trademarking, UPC coding, brand identification and manufacturing. What she did not do was secure a source to market before spending all of her money on production.

Now she is asking for us to sell her excess inventory on eBay.

I would rather set up a continuing outlet for these products because they are good products and I can see the market for them. Our client is fed up with all of the attorneys and marketing agents and buyers who have all had their hands out along the way, with not one of these "professionals" helping her sell the product.  I would rather have set her us an eBay store and n associated website to market her Ball Buddies to the world. Unfortunately her marketing budget is depleted and she cannot afford to move forward with such plans.  If we had met this client at the beginning of her journey with Ball Buddies, we may have been able to help her profit a great deal from her ideas and ingenuity.  There is actually still a chance...

We have these products listed in our eBay store - All Business Auctions

Maybe we can find a good outlet for our client.  Spread the word if you know anyone in the promotional marketplace looking for a unique new item or two... These Ball Buddies are ready to test market and ready for production!

eBay is full of dreams of riches to be had, and this is a case where someone can make some money with the right marketing. Unfortunately, for our client, unless we can find a buyer who will try the items with the intent of re-ordering on a regular basis.... I really do not see any way for the client to get her investment back.

This is a lesson for anyone who has a great idea...

Remember the Ball Buddies! Ball Buddies Dice

Never invest in production, unless and until you have figured out your marketing!
