Inbound Links are SEO Fuel – Get New Inbound Links to Your Website or Blog

Links are what makes the Internet work, and links are what make your website grow.

There are many ways to collect links to your sites, some easy, some not so easy.

  • Beg for links from everyone you know (how long is that list? people you know with ranked websites that are relevant to your own website?)
  • Cruise the Internet chat rooms and discussion boards, posting messages and creating links back with your signature in these posts (Most likely marked No Follow by the discussion board webmaster)
  • Offer a link exchange - Ok if you know the other website or blog owner, but not usually too effective with ranked sites with any real Google Juice and Google will actually deduct from your page rank score if you have too many reciprocal links on your site. One way links are best for you.
  • Join a Web Link Echange Ring - alright, these have been around since Moby Dick was a minnow - some swear by them but I have heard that Google really frowns upon collecting links for your site this way, and if Google does not like it, I don't do it.
  • - Sometimes this can get you in trouble, unless it is done right. and to do it right you need to have a strategy and you should know more than what is promoted in link exchange groups.
  • - Offers education in the form of a free guide to link buying which explains more than just why you should buy your links through Text Link Ads.  I have read it and I was impressed with the amount of real education included in this guide which is offered with for trying the service.

I have tried the old fashioned methods of web rings and I have gone through all of the can't miss super affiliate long sales letter "Systems" for building links and page rank and ultimately traffic and I know there are very few easy or free ways to build up traffic to a site besides old fashioned content generation (some say free - I say valuable) and a well placed and yes - monetized link building plan.

Buying links through a service like is not all that expensive when you consider the time you will not have to waste on building these links through other means.  Do yourself a favor and check out this method of link building, it could just increase your sales and the effects of building up page rank are long term.

Thanks to LinkedIn, I learned what an Ass Hat Award is… from the Daily Blonde

Ok, Ok, so this is not my normal kind of post but I am feeling a bit off topic today after the long 4th of July weekend...

How did this lead to an Ass Hat?

How did this lead to an Ass Hat?

This morning, I opened my email and was of course caught in the avalanche of electronic stress messages. (Why don't I listen to Tim Ferris of the 4 Hour Work Week?).

One of, well, several of these emails - 12 to be exact, was from LinkedIn. LinkedIn was informing me that I had 12 people who "had asked to be part of my network" - ahhh this is nice, lets do that for some easy mindless wakeup data processing...

As I worked through the invitations and replies (mostly from colleagues at the Examiner.com), I came across one particular invite that caught my eye.

And no... not just because this person is an attractive blonde...

First thing that caught my eye was the tag line...

"Creator and Owner of the Daily Blonde blog".

In today's world you must be unique and you must say something in a short flash of time to catch peoples ever crowded trains of thought. Cheryl Phillips says to the world that she is a blonde on a daily basis - not that there is anything wrong with that... (Paraphrasing Seinfeld).

To me this says Cheryl has a sense of humor and... the moxie to make something of it. I dug deeper, which in today's world is not a huge demand on journalistic resources... What I did was follow the link, on LinkedIn (get it) to the Daily Blonde Blog.

The first story on The Daily Blonde was a bit of a trend follower, a cynical view of the recent Sara Palin story (Sara Palin Leaves Office Early), but something else on the homepage caught my eye. What I saw was another story of interest, which of course lead me to click another link.

AssHat of the Week.

From the Daily Blonde

From the Daily Blonde

The Asshat of the week story leads in with:

...I realized that it was time to pay tribute to the irresponsible parents that seem to think I run a home daycare and restaurant for their children. So, this week’s AssHat award covers quite a few heads. It’s a big hat so there’s no problem making sure everyone fits under it.

The story goes on to describe -in letter form - to the irresponsible parents in this single mothers neighborhood, not only that she is not the summer day care provider, but more so, that these other parents should be responsible for their own kids. Parents should feed, bathe, and make sure that their own children are safe, not pawn them off on another parent for 10-12 hours without a care.  It is an article that any responsible parent in any neighborhood in America can relate to these days.

Why am I writing about this Asshat Award thing?

  • It is a unique article with humor and touches on a subject many of us parents have wanted to say out loud, but never had the moxie to do ourselves.
  • The entire idea of the blog has originality and style, coupled with humor and caring.  It is a recipe people obviously like.
  • I only found this blog through Social Networking and LinkedIn, now I am writing about it - This is how the Internet of Today works!

The last point is what I wish to stress in this article.

People are searching the world we call the Internet for information.

No matter what business you are in, no matter what you sell, no matter who you work for or if you are an attorney or a broker or a architect or a ditch digger - there are people out there that want to know what you know and they will find the information you publish - if you leave enough "clues" to follow.

Clues in the form on links, links in the form of: LinkedIn profiles, Twitter accounts (with active tweets), Facebook profiles, forum posts and more...

People will follow these clues, bread crumbs, links, Tweets, opinions... all back to you.

These are the people you are looking for as an audience, they will find you and see you as a leader if you publish the information they are searching for.  Without an audience, there are no leaders, without leaders the audience continues to search...  Find your audience and help them to make you a leader, let them stop searching for your information, give them what they want no matter what that is.

Just Do IT!

Get out in the world and write something, post a video or take a picture - people will find and admire what you have to say or share, if you make an effort to share good things and if you spend some time contributing to other peoples lives by sharing and recognizing others that share as I am doing today.

I had never even heard of Cheryl Phillips and the Daily Blonde before, even though she is a blogger of note and one who should be followed:

With an Alexa rating of approximately 150,000, over 1600 email subscribers and an average “stay” on The Daily Blonde by readers of over 3 minutes. She also spreads the word about her blog to over 16,000+ Twitter followers every day. Cheryl is currently ranked in the top 50 Twitter users and was written up as one of the Top 10 Women on Twitter in the world.

Cheryl is a stay at home mom with more kids than she should be able to deal with and she is cranking out quality blog article posts that bring her an every increasing audience - is there really any reason why you can not do this for yourself or your business?  Cheryl Phillips and the Daily Blonde are not just one isolated story of the power of Internet self publishing, she is but one of millions of people who have found notoriety and possible success with social media and blogging.

With the tools available to everyone in today's world of CMS publishing on the net, using platforms like WordPress, Joomla! and Drupal to name a few, there is no reason why any business or professional person should not have the ability to share and inform on a daily basis, just as the Daily Blonde does.

Pick your topic, fulfill your niche, find your audience and you will create a market that never existed before for your business.

Vzaar Video for Business Video for eBay Video for Marketing – It’s Just Vzaar!

vzaar_logo_powering_video1It's Just Vzaar!

I have been aware of the Vzaar video embed service for eBay sellers and Internet merchants since they started back in 2007.  Not being a big user of video though I really did not spend a lot of time checking the company out. To tell the truth, this could be one of my biggest mistakes in the last 2 years!

Video ENGAGE!

Diamond Seller on vzaar - Watch more Videos at Vodpod.

(I apologize to Captain Jean-Luc Picard - I couldn't resist!)

Everyone is now aware of the power of video for product presentations, for engagement of the audience and to more effectively present any service on a website (or in this case any eBay listing) in a fashion that is accepted worldwide. Viewers may not speak your language but a video can explain your product or service to them - it is that effective.

A picture may be worth a 1000 words! What is the extrapolation for video? - a Billion words?

Yet I have not paid as much attention to video as I should have. Frankly I was blithely wandering through life with my own little writers mentality enjoying ignorant bliss.  Wow, did I miss the boat on this one!

Jamie Parkins

Jamie Parkins

Jamie Parkins of Vzaar tried to show me the way at eBay Live in Chicago 2008.  We met on the solutions floor about, oh... a dozen times it seems. Jamie was actively trying to get my attention for his product and to be honest he had a great story to tell.  I listened, I watched and I found it all very interesting but I have to admit something...  In the back of my head was what I thought was a huge question about this paid video embed service...

Bonanzle Sellers Holiday Wishlist – Buyers Buyers Buyers

bonanzleBonanzle Booth Owners Want Buyers...

It is no secret that I have been enamored with the Bonanzle website for several months now.

For a list of some of the articles I have written in the last several months look here: TA Journal - Bonanzle.

In those past articles many of the positive features of the site have been covered in depth.

I just plain like Bonanzle.

I am not alone with my adulation... Other sources have pronounced Bonanzle as a very appealing selling platform.

While I and many others are very enthusiastic about the platform that Bill Harding and Mark Dorsey are building at Bonanzle.com, there are some aspects of the site which could be improved.  Bill and Mark have done an amazing job with the site thus far and they are continuing to improve the site on a daily basis but with almost any startup there are some obvious features which can be seen from the outside, which may be missed internally. With Bonanzle the list is unusually short, and getting shorter each day. In fact, by the time you read this article, my list may be non-existent.  Bill Harding is a fast developer!

Using Press Releases to Promote your Traditional and Online Businesses

Pres Release Marketing

Press releases have been used by marking agencies and advertising firms for eons but they are no longer the tool of high powered and expensive marketing gurus.

You can use online press release outlets like PR Web and Express Press Release to get your marketing message online and possibly picked up by your local or even national news agencies.

Read more about it here: http://allbusinessauctions.com/blog/2008/02/27/google-press-release-tools-for-marketing-rocketplace-ebay-conference-pr-web-based-marketing/

I have just written the article above to show how to write a press release for your business. It details how you should use a newsworthy style and include outside quotes and references. If your press release looks too much like marketing hype it will be ignored.

As a Trading Assistant or Drop Store owner you could use press releases to raise consumer awareness of your services. If you do a charity drive for a local church or sell a very distinct item like a meteor or a Elvis Presley handkerchief for some outrageous amount, you should issue press releases to draw attention to your business and your brand.

Try free or low cost online press release outlets for your business. The long term effects could increase your companies awareness in the community.

Last Year over 20 Billion Dollars worth of product was sold on Ebay. (Yes Billion with a "B"). Many people are earning $10,000 or more selling on Ebay. 1 - Garage Sales

The Strategy that works best with Garage Sales is stop by at the end of the day and offer to buy all the merchandise they have left. You can often spend $25 - $50 and then resell on Ebay for $500 or more.

  • Why is this a very difficult way to make money on eBay? - Because for every item you spend the time to find at a garage sale you must perform several time consuming steps before that single item can be sold on eBay. Each item must be evaluated, cleaned, tested, described, photographed, categorized, listed and stored. This is a lot of time invested in each item purchased at "Garage Sales", and that time is multiplied by a factor of however many items you purchase in that lot for $50. Therefore, for each 20 item lot you purchase for $50, you will spend approximately 20 hours of your time getting those items listed on eBay. How much is your time worth? Lets say you value your time at a very low $10 per hour, now your investment in these 20 items is worth in excess of $250, not including the time or gas money spent in finding the original "Garage Sale". Will each lot or haul from these "Garage Sales" net even one item which will return your investment in time and cash? Will all of the items sell on the first listing on eBay? How much more money will you invest in eBay fee's and charges to sell these used cast off "Garage Sale" items? - Garage Saleing is a fun pass-time for the retired and a possible business endeavor for people who work at Flea Markets, but for eBay it is a losing proposition. Suggesting that eBay sellers should source product using this method is similar to suggesting to gamblers that they can get rich by playing bingo.
