AuctionBytes vs. eBay – The Saga Continues… What's The Good News?

For those who have not read the details yet, a story has developed over the last few days which pits the huge conglomerate of eBay against the established standard bearer of the media (covering the ecommerce industry) Auctionbytes.

Randy Smythe over at My Blog Utopia gives the timeline...

Randy also adds to the discussion with sage advise and the perspective of a former multi-million dollar media seller on eBay, in his article: AuctionBytes Responds to eBay about Diamond Power Sellers. I suggest reading Randy's 15% as it is usually not to be discounted.

I won't re-hash the events or the back and forth between Auctionbytes Ina Steiner and eBay's Jim Griff Griffith.  The damage has already been done to and by both sides of this verbal exchange.

My observation: This simply is a symptom of a greater problem.

Both eBay and Auctionbytes (who has fed from the eBay trough for many years) are showing signs of frustration.  The vibe from eBay, since early this year, has been predicting a split from feeding Auctionbytes the scraps and juicy tidbits they so readily had in the past. As a result, Auctionbytes has become more and more critical of eBay and the relationship has cooled.

Many conclude... there are good reasons behind both positions...

I say, lets move on...

Why don't we step back and look at what is happening here... Continue reading “AuctionBytes vs. eBay – The Saga Continues… What's The Good News?” »

IMA Disbanding? – Discourse in the Ranks – Transparency Issues – What?

IMA_Logo

It has been reported in AuctionBytes today that the Internet Merchants Association is considering disbanding.

Ina's Steiner's article reveals information coming from within the IMA, this information details an internal rift between board members regarding "Back Room Deals", "Transparency" and Ethics.  Since I have no contacts within the IMA and I have had no accurate information to report regarding the workings of it's board, I will refrain from commenting about the specific facts or the problems reported in Ina Steiner's article. Auction Bytes has done a good job of reporting the news.

Here at the Trading Assistant Journal, we provide relevant commentary on the ecommerce and Internet trade business as a whole. As such a publication, I am inspired to ask one simple question regarding the public dispute within the board at the Internet Merchants Association.

What About The Members?

Has anyone on the board at the IMA considered how the "Internal Strife" and bickering on the board effects the rank & file member merchants who pay good money for a membership.  As a member of a trade organization purportedly offering value in the form of benefits, information, networking and education, is bickering and back room deal discussion considered as a benefit or education?

Do the board members at the IMA really think the membership is concerned with internal issues concerning "Back Room Deals" and "Transparency"?  Continue reading “IMA Disbanding? – Discourse in the Ranks – Transparency Issues – What?” »

Vuurve – Another Oddball eBay Concept Connected to eBay & Franchise UPS Stores

Website Blog Special

Vuurve-Logo

In Todays Auctionbytes newsflash I read a story by Ina Steiner (see below) about a new concept in eBay Franchise Drop Store history. Actually this new concept is the antithesis of an eBay drop store.

Vuurve is the name of this new concept and they claim to have a solution for people who really want the items they buy on eBay - FAST.

This concept involves sending unsold inventory to UPS stores in major metropolitan markets throughout the USA. This unsold merchandise is then stored at the UPS store until someone in the local market decides to buy the product from your eBay store. When the purchase is made, the customer or buyer is then directed to pick up the item at the local UPS store. Sounds simple, right?

Vuurve claims this system (shared distribution model) will promote more sales and increase revenue for eBay merchants.

The cost for the merchant? A mere 24.99 per item!

Oh, and Vuurve at this time is only accepting certain merchandise like Playstation, XBOX & Wii high end game consoles.

Ok, as a "Proof of concept" Vuurve has established a beautiful website which really says very little about how this is supposed to work. It is presented as a very snazzy concept, but it really tells the merchant nothing when you actually try to read the content.

Lets just take a moment and think about this "concept" from the merchants perspective. Continue reading “Vuurve – Another Oddball eBay Concept Connected to eBay & Franchise UPS Stores” »

QuikDrop Closes eBay Drop-off Store Franchise Store Owners Looking for Software Replacement

QuikDrop Says Goodbye...

QuickDrop LogoIn an article written by Ina Steiner of AuctionBytes.com this morning, it is reported that QuikDrop, one of America's largest drop off eBay store franchises, is closing up franchise sales and support operations by the end of this month. The current franchisees (store owners) are free to continue store operations but will do so without corporate franchise support or software.

...at least one storeowner was worried over QuikDrop's notice that it would cease offering the stores use of its proprietary software program on December 31. Bob Golub, owner of a Massachusetts QuikDrop franchise store, said he wasn't surprised at news of the closure, but is worried about finding replacement software and learning a new program in such a short period of time. "We're all scrambling," Golub said. Excerpt by: Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com

If you own a QuickDrop franchise what will you do? Continue reading “QuikDrop Closes eBay Drop-off Store Franchise Store Owners Looking for Software Replacement” »
