eBay Partner Network – Losing Affiliates Confidence

The eBay Partner Network - Formerly managed by Commission Junction seems to be faltering...

The eBay Partner Network is the internal division of eBay now placed in charge of managing affiliates for eBay.  This recent change from the Commission Junction program initially was presented as a good thing for eBay and therefore a good thing for eBay sellers.

After recent announcements of an alteration in the payment structure for eBay affiliates and reports of discrepancies in reporting by the Partner Network to its affiliates, it now appears the switch away from Commission Junction may not be the best move for eBay or its sellers.

Many of our readers concentrate on selling physical products on eBay.

Why should eBay sellers be concerned about affiliates?

eBay is attractive to many sellers because it is a proven source of what sellers desire most... buyers.

Many merchants have compared the flow of buyer traffic to that of the flow of water from a fire hose and many say this flow of buyer traffic becomes addictive. So much so, that some merchants find it difficult to set up other selling channels once they establish themselves on eBay.

Since eBay enjoys the reputation of being one of the best places on the Internet to find the buyer traffic merchants need to sell goods.  eBay's traffic is one of the main reasons many merchants have never explored establishing an Internet presence of their own.  Consideration should be given to the sources of that traffic and anything which may disturb the flow.

Ever wondered where the traffic comes from? Continue reading “eBay Partner Network – Losing Affiliates Confidence” »

eBay Fees ? Amazon Fees ? Etsy Fees ? Overstock Fees ? Try eBCalc

eBCalc the venerable online fee calculator for eBay and PayPal has been used by knowledgeable eBay sellers for years.

Many of us long standing eBay sellers are very familiar with the interface and usefulness of this nifty free program found at the following URL: http://v1.ebcalc.com/

You may not be aware that eBCalc has changed,

...at least I was surprised to see that the simple eBay & PayPal fee calculator has undergone a growth spurt.  eBCalc is now much more than a tool for eBay & PayPal and it seems we have a certain Mr. Doug Boudreau to thank.

eBCalc is now a multi-channel fee calculator with more functionality than ever before.  Not only will eBCalc return results for eBay's many marketplaces and fee structures at the following URL: eBay Fee Calculator but it will now also help with fee calculation for many other marketplaces such as Amazon.com, Overstock.com and Etsy (among others).  Continue reading “eBay Fees ? eBay Changes and New eBay Rules – Video Commentary by: Andrew Locke – Renegade eBay Seller

This long and interesting piece by Andrew Locke expresses many eBay sellers feel about the changes at ebay in a well produced if somewhat off looking video.

This video is intended to get viewers to go to Andrew's website and purchase affiliate programs, books, video products and webinars.  I am not an affiliate of Andrew Locke or any of the products on his site,  you can follow his links if you like, but know that I am not endorsing any of the content on his site.  I just think this video is worthy of a few moments of your time.

Tamebay – Real Story about a Real Seller Who Found Life After eBay

TamebayIn my RSS feed I get a lot of eBay related information every day.

This morning, one particular article caught my attention...

Another one bites the dust

Author: Sue Bailey
Posted at: Friday, May 30th, 2008 at 11:34 am

Another one bites the dust is a real story about a real high volume seller shut down by eBay for a no real reason. Stuart tried to reason with eBay, Stuart travelled to Catalyst 2008 simply to speak face to face with someone from eBay.  Stuart got nowhere with eBay.

eBay does not want Stuart's over $60,000 in fees per year because eBay has its rules...  You see, a former partner of Stuarts did not pay his $250 ebay fee bill 2 years ago. Stuart paid the bill when he was made aware (it was an account Stuart has not used in 2 years).  In any case, after months of trying to reason, and while under a 12 month suspension, Stuart has found a new way of doing business.

Stuart does not rely on eBay any longer, he has found his way out of the darkness of eBay suspension and into the light of eCommerce sales.  Stuart sees a bright future ahead and he says he will never rely on eBay again completely as he had before.

Good for Stuart!

Thanks to tamebay & Sue Bailey for bringing all of us this inspiring story today!

eBay Master Plan & eCommerce – Speculation – Why Not Join The Two?

eBay is in a period of transition...

As sellers we are left to react to the changes - wouldn't it be nice to have an idea about the master plan?

eBay Plan

I don't think eBay will be revealing the complete master plan any time soon...

Either because they do not have one (a possibility proffered in multiple other blogs and chat rooms) or, more than likely, eBay knows each change brings with it a cloud of worry and concern from the users of the site.  If they were to set out the overall plan all at once, it would be met with so much resistance from the community the transition would become almost impossible.

Once again we are left to speculate - and with speculation comes opportunity.

Opportunities to dream, opportunities to succeed...

An opportunity to think about what could be...

Lets take a look at what eBay has to work with... Continue reading “eBay Master Plan & eCommerce – Speculation – Why Not Join The Two?” »

eBay Changes Coming in 2008 – Are you an inefficient Seller? No Listing Fees?

eBay is in for some changes in 2008.

As sellers we all know change is inevitable and required for sustained growth in any marketplace. The changes which are reported in the article quoted below by: Richard Waters in San Francisco, which seem to be coming in 2008 may help established sellers on eBay yet hinder the newer sellers on eBay.

In Summary this is what you can look for in 2008

  • Major Revamp of eBays Core Business
  • More of an e-Commerce look and feel of the site (already in the works)
  • Testing of a new "no listing fee" model (Where have you heard about that before?)
  • Priority in the general search will go more towards "the most reliable sellers".
  • "Weeding out" of fraudulent and inefficient sellers

eBay definately needs to make some changes so I think we should all take a wait and see attitude. Of course if you are one of the fraudulent or inefficient sellers your view may be different. As a honest and efficient seller you should applaud the idea of getting rid of dead weight. eBays core revenue structure has always been bouyed by those same inefficient sellers however. eBay never really cared if your item sold the first time listed or not, because they make money either way. With a change to a no listing fee model, this will change the goal of eBay drastically. eBay will be more involved with making sure every listing is successful. This can only lead to more exciting promotion of our products by eBay.

I say stick with eBay and look forward to some exciting changes in the future. If these adjustments are actually made and done well, 2008 could be a very good year!

Tinkering with the core mechanisms of the world's busiest e-commerce site is not to be undertaken lightly. Yet John Donahoe, head of Ebay's marketplace division, is preparing an overhaul for early next year that amounts to a major revamp of Ebay's core business.

Who is John Donahoe?

  • Current President at eBay
  • Past Worldwide Managing Director at Bain & Company
  • Education Dartmouth College

Public Profilehttp://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/1b/368

If successful, it could revive the company's flagging growth while also strengthening his own standing as the likely eventual successor to Meg Whitman as Ebay's chief executive.

A former managing partner of Bain, the consulting firm, who joined Ebay nearly three years ago, Mr Donahoe has cast an outsider's dispassionate eye over some of the site's practices and found them wanting. During an interview at Ebay's headquarters in Silicon Valley, he talks with the clear and untroubled certainties of the consultant, and he has the prescriptions to match.

"A year ago, we had 14 per cent of global e-commerce, we are the largest e-commerce provider, and our home page still looks like a flea market," he says. "The world around us had changed. In particular our buyers' experience hadn't kept up." Continue reading “eBay Changes Coming in 2008 – Are you an inefficient Seller? No Listing Fees?” »

eBay lowering fees – We say – eBay Listing Fees FREE

eBay is considering lowering fees for sellers

Let me repeat that...

eBay is considering lowering fees for sellers!

The "market" is wondering if this would be a good idea? I don't think any serious eBay sellers would question the wisdom of such a plan.

In fact with the increase in revenue for PayPal primarily from eBay transactions, I personally would recommend that eBay make it's auction and Stores services...
