Tamebay – Real Story about a Real Seller Who Found Life After eBay

TamebayIn my RSS feed I get a lot of eBay related information every day.

This morning, one particular article caught my attention...

Another one bites the dust

Author: Sue Bailey
Posted at: Friday, May 30th, 2008 at 11:34 am

Another one bites the dust is a real story about a real high volume seller shut down by eBay for a no real reason. Stuart tried to reason with eBay, Stuart travelled to Catalyst 2008 simply to speak face to face with someone from eBay.  Stuart got nowhere with eBay.

eBay does not want Stuart's over $60,000 in fees per year because eBay has its rules...  You see, a former partner of Stuarts did not pay his $250 ebay fee bill 2 years ago. Stuart paid the bill when he was made aware (it was an account Stuart has not used in 2 years).  In any case, after months of trying to reason, and while under a 12 month suspension, Stuart has found a new way of doing business.

Stuart does not rely on eBay any longer, he has found his way out of the darkness of eBay suspension and into the light of eCommerce sales.  Stuart sees a bright future ahead and he says he will never rely on eBay again completely as he had before.

Good for Stuart!

Thanks to tamebay & Sue Bailey for bringing all of us this inspiring story today!

Refresh Miami Blogger Dinner – Conversation Evolves

I am just back in my downtown hotel room from tonight's Refresh Miami blogger dinner . This will be a short post because it is quite late and I am in dire need of sleep before to returning to Tampa Bay in the morning. Due to the number of attendees (our table included over 25 people) I can not report on every discussion or topic...

After all, I think the real report here is an actual return to conversation. Continue reading “Refresh Miami Blogger Dinner – Conversation Evolves” »

PowerSeller's Impressions – Part 3 ECMTA PeSa – eCommerce Summit – John Lawson's Final Cut

John LawsonThis is the Grand Finale of John Lawson's 3 Part series of commentary derived from his notes from New Orleans - eCommerce Summit 2008

Hey guys, here is Part III and this is the final in this series. So let's get into it!

First I want to go over the little notes I listed in Part II of this series.

I'll go through it and give you my personal feeling about what Lorrie Norrington said and how what she said in her speech might affect my business and as a PowerSeller on eBay.

I want to respectfully say that I am basically just a guy trying to feed my family with an eBay business. My business is a business that I started at the kitchen table, literally. It is a business that I actively run and the day to day operations of it are handled by myself, my partner and a small virtual staff. I think 3rd Power Outlet has come to the point now where we would be considered small to medium eBay Powersellers, experienced sellers, and primarily eBay-centric sellers.

When Lorrie started the speech and said primarily that eBay wanted seller's business and considered us sellers as partners, my initial reaction was, "OK, this is different". I was not really used to hearing keynote speeches from eBay Presidents speaking in these terms. Recently I have advised my readers here at the TAJournal that blogging about the items you sell is a great idea to drive traffic to your listings, no matter where you post them.  One reader mentioned that I seem to not be practicing what I preach.  This is true to some extent, but mostly because I do not want to load up the Trading Assistant Journal with post after post of items I have for sale.

I have posted here with items we have listed for sale in the past (See: Diamond Ring)

From the diamond ring listing I have unscientifically determined this strategy works - try blogging for your listings and see if it helps boost sales and awareness of your brand.

PowerSeller's Impressions of eBay President Lorrie Norrington's Speech @ PeSA ECMTA Summit NOLA 2008 -3rd PowerOutlet Part Deaux

Morial Convention Center

Guest Post by: John Lawson - 3rdPowerOutlet.com

Wow, the intro that Scott wrote on Part I was very flattering. I really appreciated it, and he made me sound smart…way smarter than I am. I really am glad he wrote it though, because others may start to believe it, in spite of the glaring contradiction I will detail in these next entries of blogging about the conference. I got my own style, so do not get too offended.  This is only me having fun.

Part II – Conference Day

We left off at 2:00 AM this morning. That is when I got my crazy butt in a cab to the hotel and got to bed about 2:45 AM or so. As Scott said about the fine liquor in his intro, I am glad it was fine because the sting is a lot less in the mornings.

Note to self…Top shelf means fewer hangovers. Continue reading “PowerSeller's Impressions of eBay President Lorrie Norrington's Speech @ PeSA ECMTA Summit NOLA 2008 -3rd PowerOutlet Part Deaux” »

Promote Your Products Online – eBay – OnlineAuction.com Blogs – Forums – Rummage Sales

eBayeBay is making changes

The recent changes in eBay have been well documented and yet more are sure to be announced in the coming months. These changes could be positive for the eBay community as a whole (removing under performing sellers) but some sellers on the site are bound to be looking for other options.

Some sellers appear to be thinking the changes on eBay may not fit into their specific business plan, or the sellers may find that their business practices no longer fit into eBay's new plan.  A majority of the eBay sellers will continue to succeed on eBay...

In any case, it is always prudent to be aware of other available channels offering auction and fixed priced goods to the public. Diversification is a meaningful term used by more than stockbrokers.

No matter where you list your items for sale, as a seller it is in your best interest to promote your own merchandise online. Just placing an item in a channel such as eBay and hoping it will sell is not the most effective marketing plan. There are many ways to send traffic to your own merchandise, no matter if it is listed on a standalone eCommerce website, eBay or one of the other channels such as OnlineAuction.com.

Promote your own listings with these simple suggestions... Continue reading “Promote Your Products Online – eBay – OnlineAuction.com Blogs – Forums – Rummage Sales” »

PeSA ECMTA eCommerce Summit 2008- Attendee Perspective – Guest Blogger John Lawson 3rdPowerOutlet.Com

We have a new Guest Blogger....

John Lawson is the President and driving force behind 3rd Power Outlet www.3rdPO.com

If you are already a member of PeSA ECMTA you may already know of John. I mean, he is hard to miss! I don't say this just because he knows how to attract attention with his branded 3rdPowerOutlet clothing...

John Lawson

I say it because John is a active member on the PeSA ECMTA Forums and as the first first African American member of PeSA he is a trailblazer who adds real value to the community.

John adds value on the discussion boards and in person. John asks the questions most attendees at events like Catalyst or eCommerce Summit wish they had thought of asking. The fact that he is a straight shooting, successful business person and a pioneer who brought Hip Hop successfully to eBay just adds enormous credibility to what he says and lends value to the answers he gets from speakers at these conferences.

It did not take long for John and I to hit it off when we met at Catalyst in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I felt we had a connection both in business philosophy and as friends. I do not come from John's background, and to be honest I do not know much about Hip Hop. I would never presume to relate to John on that plane and he is fine with that.

I can relate to John as a business person, entrepreneur and a good guy. I appreciate hearing what John has to say and I thought my audience here at the Trading Assistant Journal would also appreciate reading John's perspective.

So after plying him with fine liquor and offering to make him even more famous than he already is... I have successfully convinced John Lawson to add to our conversation here at The TA Journal as a guest blogger.

What follows is what I hope to be the first of many entries from my friend John. Please read and enjoy. Check out his store and learn how this man views the world of eCommerce. You could only stand to learn a thing or two...and that can't be a bad thing.

eCommerce Summit - View from a PeSA Attendee - Part One - by: John Lawson

You guys can read about the eCommerce / PeSA sessions from a real blogger as Scott has done wonders capturing it on this blog. I met Scott for the first time at the ChannelAdvisor Catalyst event earlier this year. At that time he asked me for my input and chatted about it. I mentioned that I would be going to the PeSA event in New Orleans and he asked if I would be interesting in a guest blog about it. So I agree to give it a try and I am not a pro at all, so here is my story.

This is a personal perspective of my trip to New Orleans and my perspective of the events at the summit. This is written by me and for me mostly, but I thought I would capture my thoughts here and you are welcome to follow along.

Part I.... (The arrival) Continue reading “PeSA ECMTA eCommerce Summit 2008- Attendee Perspective – Guest Blogger John Lawson 3rdPowerOutlet.Com” »

The First Rummage Sale Blog from OnlineAuction.com « Callmemomo’s Weblog

OnlineAuction.com - Rummage Sales and Internet Radio Shows...

As some of you may know, I have been co-hosting a segment on the ebay & Beyond Basics to Business Internet radio show & Podcast hosted by Dave White.  The show is recorded live every Saturday between 10:00 AM and Noon EST.

Last Saturday ( April 19, 2008 ) the show focused on the OnlineAuction.com Internet auction website with interviews of the CEO of OnlineAuction.com Chris Fain and a selling member of the site Karen "callmemomo" Hammond.

OnlineAuctionLogo

OnlineAuction.com, also known by the acronym OLA, has grown steadily for some time and seems to be in a great position to capitalize upon the recent upheaval within the eBay sellers community.  OnlineAuction.com currently has over 13 million items listed for sale on the site.

The sellers on OnlineAuction seem to appreciate the feeling of community and the relatively low fee structure. They say OnlineAuction.com is a better place than eBay for them because selling on the site is "fun again" just as they remember eBay selling from years past. The goal of this Rummage Sale is to draw more traffic from the Internet and compete more closely with eBay.

Rummage Sale...

Rummage Sale

Karen is one of the grass roots organizers of an event called the OnlineAuction.com Rummage Sale.  The Rummage Sale has been organized by individual sellers on the site and not by the site itself. The OnlineAuction.com management is fully behind this groundswell of involvement from its sellers and they endorse the Rummage Sale which will be launched May 1st. eBay Ink – New Blog or Same ole eBay? Usher Lieberman Thanks for Trying!

After posting my most recent article about eBay North American GM Stephanie Tilenius and her answers to my Digital Download questions at Catalyst 2008...

I wanted to be sure I was not too harsh and had presented the case from a sellers perspective fairly.  I am not an eBay basher and would prefer to work towards positive change if change is needed.  Change is not always needed, but change usually comes in any case. In an effort to confirm my thoughts as they were presented in my previous post, I went surfing the web looking for blog posts and news articles...
