I wish I could do more to help you cope with the issues that you are currently dealing with. But as you know, I was one of the six or more people who were summarily dismissed from the organization Monday morning for expressing my outrage at the actions of the three remaining members of the Board of Directors (BOD).
The president of an eCommerce Trade Group, the Internet Merchants Association, has stated he will “go after” any bloggers or websites covering IMA business. The IMA is a non-profit organization which recently experienced mass resignations from a majority of the board due to ethics concerns.
I have received letter upon letter, obviously written by very upset and almost physically shaken individuals who in most cases simply wanted to belong to a fair and honest group of like minded people.
While reportedly awaiting an apology from the BOD at the Internet Marketing Association to which she belonged, Debbie Levitt posted on her blog today that she has been summarily expelled from the IMA.
The fighting and arguing at IMA, as it appears from the outside, boils down to nothing more than a teenage prepubescent firestorm over he-said she-said and a power struggle to gain control.
The obvious options as eBay competition include Amazon, Yahoo Stores, and stand alone eCommerce websites, we will research each of these options and more.
I think eBay people are all looking for other alternatives to only selling on eBay. If you are one of those people, this information will interest you!
eBay’s DevCon conference gets less of the hoopla and press when compared to eBay Live. I suppose this is because developers are fairly introverted people who would rather have the attention lavished on thier software creations.

Real business is attracted to eBay for only one reason – traffic.
In a nutshell eBay is a traffic machine, a fire hose of consumers. All of the other stuff is considered as a barrier to entry, the feedback system, the complicated fee structure, fraud etc…
eBay is doing what it’s leadership feels it needs to do to remain profitable and viable in today’s every changing eCommerce marketplace. John Donahoe, Lorrie Norrington and all of the executive team at eBay are doing what their research and analysis tells them they need to do.
The point is like minded people joining together to break bread and talk about what it is that they do in life, at work, and in the social arena. Of course the discussions at this particular table were somewhat different than, say a local Lions Club meeting, but is there really a difference?
