eBay Partner Network – Losing Affiliates Confidence

The eBay Partner Network - Formerly managed by Commission Junction seems to be faltering...

The eBay Partner Network is the internal division of eBay now placed in charge of managing affiliates for eBay.  This recent change from the Commission Junction program initially was presented as a good thing for eBay and therefore a good thing for eBay sellers.

After recent announcements of an alteration in the payment structure for eBay affiliates and reports of discrepancies in reporting by the Partner Network to its affiliates, it now appears the switch away from Commission Junction may not be the best move for eBay or its sellers.

Many of our readers concentrate on selling physical products on eBay.

Why should eBay sellers be concerned about affiliates?

eBay is attractive to many sellers because it is a proven source of what sellers desire most... buyers.

Many merchants have compared the flow of buyer traffic to that of the flow of water from a fire hose and many say this flow of buyer traffic becomes addictive. So much so, that some merchants find it difficult to set up other selling channels once they establish themselves on eBay.

Since eBay enjoys the reputation of being one of the best places on the Internet to find the buyer traffic merchants need to sell goods.  eBay's traffic is one of the main reasons many merchants have never explored establishing an Internet presence of their own.  Consideration should be given to the sources of that traffic and anything which may disturb the flow.

Ever wondered where the traffic comes from? Continue reading “eBay Partner Network – Losing Affiliates Confidence” »

Will it Blend – Blendtec – Your Next Viral Marketing Video

Will it Blend?

The brainchild of a very creative marketer by the name of Tom Dickson, best known for demonstrating his Blendtec Total Blenders by turning unlikely things like iPhones into iDust.

While Mr. Dickson has very successfully proven the theory of viral marketing is it possible to follow in his footsteps or even surpass the massive success of the series of you tube videos called Will it Blend?  I think so...

Producing video today is much easier and faster than ever before.  The only thing slowing most marketers down is creativity.  I am not saying everyone should sell blenders and create videos of them pulverizing inanimate objects into dust.  Yet I am suggesting it is this type of creative and somewhat irreverent thinking which makes good marketers.  Video is just the tool, creativity is the gift.

Think about what it is your selling online... Is it convenience, is it quality, do you have a unique product not found elsewhere?

No one would have thought selling blenders would make someone into an international superstar but this is exactly what has happened to Tom Dickson.  Seemingly mundane and ordinary products can be turned into exciting sales figures with just a little bit of creativity.

Utilizing Press Releases in Today's Internet Marketing World – Yahoo News Just a Click Away

What is an Internet Press Release and how will it help my business?

(Click the link above to see one of my most recent press releases on PRWeb)

Press Release

Image above links to story about a yahoo news article on iBusinessLogic blog

See the resulting Yahoo News Article Below

PRWeb - eCommWire - WebWire - Internet News Bureau - prlog - prnewswire

All of these names are essentially the same type of service offered with different features and exposure levels, but there is a difference in what you may think a press release is and what it is today.

In the past a press release was a very labor-intensive and expensive project. Writing a press release was only the first step along a very long road towards the media. First a company would produce an internal memo or pre-press release. This document would then be adjusted and massaged by various departments within a company, including legal, and then be ready for distribution. Distribution to a PR firm that is...

Once the PR firm had a press release from a company it would then try to reintroduce the pizazz that the internal departments from the prior round of edits had taken out of it. After that the PR firm would distribute the release to its contacts in media.  Not all PR firms had the same contacts and not all press releases were paid attention to from some PR firms. For a company, it was a hit or miss affair.

Before the advent of online newswires, journalists served as the gatekeepers between organizations and the public. The only way for organizations to get publicity was to send their press releases to journalists, spend hours with follow-up calls, and hope that the information would be published eventually.

Those days are over. Today, your press releases can reach the masses without being filtered through the media. With Internet-based press releases, you can easily get each of your information releases viewed by 25,000 to 100,000+ Internet readers. The included links and information lives on forever on the web.

In today's Internet world, press releases are a self-service commodity - simply paste in your information, pay your bill and let it rip... but is it that simple? Continue reading “Utilizing Press Releases in Today's Internet Marketing World – Yahoo News Just a Click Away” »

eBay & Beyond Basics to Business Internet Radio – You Tube Video Promotion

My friends Dave & Sparky at eBay & Beyond apparently have taken my suggestions & advice to heart and put thoughts into action...

While doing my Guest Host spot during a recent eBay & Beyond Basics to Business live Internet talk radio show, I had extolled the virtues of using Video Sharing social media sites like You Tube and Flickr video to promote businesses, products and services. This is an example of just how it can be done and the reason to do it...

Yesterday the first eBay & Beyond Basics to Business promotional video was launched on You Tube.

eBayand Beyond You Tube Video

Certainly I would help my friends and co-workers as much as possbile and a video like this just simply makes it very easy for me to do just that. Because they took the time to create the video and upload it to You Tube, I in turn can place the same video in my website/blog.

This is the basis for "viral" marketing and is the very reason why sites like You Tube are so popular. When viewers of a video on You Tube or Flickr or any other video site can freely place your promotion into another website... well it is all good for you!

Take a moment and think about the possibilities...

Go out and create your own video, just as Dave White and Sparky Felix have done, it does not need to be a Steven Spielburg production, it simply needs to share your message...

Great Job eBay & Beyond! I am really impressed by all of your hard work, for a couple of guys who say they have no real technical background, you both seem to have talents beyond your claims...

See You every Saturday on The Radio!

(Scott Pooler is a Guest Host on the eBay & Beyond Live Talk Radio Program Which Airs every Saturday from 10 - Noon ET) Follow the link in the sidebar to hear the show or go to eBay & Beyond website to hear the archives.

Wake Up eBay – Sharing Links, Social Marketing Good – Closed Networks Fail

eBayeBay started as a social network of buyers and sellers.

Interaction between these two separate yet linked groups of people crossed all boundaries, social, economic, international, class and religion.

eBay is social marketing

...and has been relying on social marketing for its success since long before the terminology was coined.

The Internet has changed a great deal since eBay started.

Back in 1995 the only social networks were AOL, Yahoo and eBay. No one at the time knew eBay would grow into a social marketing network but this is what has happened. Buyers and sellers connected on a personal level over great distances and found common ground in the items they traded for online.

Now eBay is turning its back on the basis of social networking and social marketing. Continue reading “Wake Up eBay – Sharing Links, Social Marketing Good – Closed Networks Fail” »

Promote Your Products Online – eBay – OnlineAuction.com Blogs – Forums – Rummage Sales

eBayeBay is making changes

The recent changes in eBay have been well documented and yet more are sure to be announced in the coming months. These changes could be positive for the eBay community as a whole (removing under performing sellers) but some sellers on the site are bound to be looking for other options.

Some sellers appear to be thinking the changes on eBay may not fit into their specific business plan, or the sellers may find that their business practices no longer fit into eBay's new plan.  A majority of the eBay sellers will continue to succeed on eBay...

In any case, it is always prudent to be aware of other available channels offering auction and fixed priced goods to the public. Diversification is a meaningful term used by more than stockbrokers.

No matter where you list your items for sale, as a seller it is in your best interest to promote your own merchandise online. Just placing an item in a channel such as eBay and hoping it will sell is not the most effective marketing plan. There are many ways to send traffic to your own merchandise, no matter if it is listed on a standalone eCommerce website, eBay or one of the other channels such as OnlineAuction.com.

Promote your own listings with these simple suggestions... Continue reading “Promote Your Products Online – eBay – OnlineAuction.com Blogs – Forums – Rummage Sales” »

Did eBay Pulse "Watched Item" Scam Kill eBook & Digital Delivery Sales on eBay?

A scam is just that... a con job, a deception, a crime...

A blockbuster deception has been reported... The world should know... But it seems no one is concerned. This particular Scam is detailed in a press release (with links to the source of this story) in the block quotes at the end of this article.

I was a victim of this deception, I fell for it.. and may have been an unknowing party to adding to its success, yet I had a feeling it was a scam.  How many victims of a con have had that same feeling?  You know there is something wrong, something just does not look or feel right.  In this case I ignored that undefinable inner voice and proceeded to write & publish an article featuring one of the perpetrators of the scam.  If any one of my readers followed my story and bought from the seller, I apologize.

Read the article I wrote here: What should you sell on eBay...

I was fooled, but I knew deep down that there was no real reason why the seller Keoka64 should have been featured as the seller with the most watched item on eBay for such a long time.

Keoka64Kekoa64 sold eBooks on eBay and from my perspective, the way these listings were being marketed on the eBay site was not all that great.  The listings I saw were unprofessional and the photo of him and his girlfriend was out of focus.  The ad copy in his listings had bad grammar and spelling.

Everything pointed to a novice eBay seller just getting started on eBay... everything but the 6600 feedback and being placed on the most watched item list on the front page of eBay Pulse for over a year's time. If eBay verified that many people watching this sellers items, I must have been missing something.  I mistook the outstanding achievement (the eBay Pulse front page longevity) as a sign that eBay knew more than they obviously did.

Now it has been revealed it was all smoke and mirrors. Kekoa64 did not deserve one moment of time on the front page of eBay Pulse.  He and the other sellers who used the Scam or hacking tactics detailed below did not deserve all of the traffic or the resulting sales from that traffic.  I am left with several questions... OnlineAuction.com - Rummage Sales and Internet Radio Shows...

As some of you may know, I have been co-hosting a segment on the ebay & Beyond Basics to Business Internet radio show & Podcast hosted by Dave White.  The show is recorded live every Saturday between 10:00 AM and Noon EST.

Last Saturday ( April 19, 2008 ) the show focused on the OnlineAuction.com Internet auction website with interviews of the CEO of OnlineAuction.com Chris Fain and a selling member of the site Karen "callmemomo" Hammond.

OnlineAuctionLogo

OnlineAuction.com, also known by the acronym OLA, has grown steadily for some time and seems to be in a great position to capitalize upon the recent upheaval within the eBay sellers community.  OnlineAuction.com currently has over 13 million items listed for sale on the site.

The sellers on OnlineAuction seem to appreciate the feeling of community and the relatively low fee structure. They say OnlineAuction.com is a better place than eBay for them because selling on the site is "fun again" just as they remember eBay selling from years past. The goal of this Rummage Sale is to draw more traffic from the Internet and compete more closely with eBay.

Rummage Sale...

Rummage Sale

Karen is one of the grass roots organizers of an event called the OnlineAuction.com Rummage Sale.  The Rummage Sale has been organized by individual sellers on the site and not by the site itself. The OnlineAuction.com management is fully behind this groundswell of involvement from its sellers and they endorse the Rummage Sale which will be launched May 1st. eBay Ink – New Blog or Same ole eBay? Usher Lieberman Thanks for Trying!

After posting my most recent article about eBay North American GM Stephanie Tilenius and her answers to my Digital Download questions at Catalyst 2008...

I wanted to be sure I was not too harsh and had presented the case from a sellers perspective fairly.  I am not an eBay basher and would prefer to work towards positive change if change is needed.  Change is not always needed, but change usually comes in any case. In an effort to confirm my thoughts as they were presented in my previous post, I went surfing the web looking for blog posts and news articles...
