Tamebay – Real Story about a Real Seller Who Found Life After eBay

TamebayIn my RSS feed I get a lot of eBay related information every day.

This morning, one particular article caught my attention...

Another one bites the dust

Another one bites the dust is a real story about a real high volume seller shut down by eBay for a no real reason. Stuart tried to reason with eBay, Stuart travelled to Catalyst 2008 simply to speak face to face with someone from eBay.  Stuart got nowhere with eBay.

eBay does not want Stuart's over $60,000 in fees per year because eBay has its rules...  You see, a former partner of Stuarts did not pay his $250 ebay fee bill 2 years ago. Stuart paid the bill when he was made aware (it was an account Stuart has not used in 2 years).  In any case, after months of trying to reason, and while under a 12 month suspension, Stuart has found a new way of doing business.

Stuart does not rely on eBay any longer, he has found his way out of the darkness of eBay suspension and into the light of eCommerce sales.  Stuart sees a bright future ahead and he says he will never rely on eBay again completely as he had before.

Good for Stuart!

Thanks to tamebay & Sue Bailey for bringing all of us this inspiring story today!

1 - Garage Sales

The Strategy that works best with Garage Sales is stop by at the end of the day and offer to buy all the merchandise they have left. You can often spend $25 - $50 and then resell on Ebay for $500 or more.

  • Why is this a very difficult way to make money on eBay? - Because for every item you spend the time to find at a garage sale you must perform several time consuming steps before that single item can be sold on eBay. Each item must be evaluated, cleaned, tested, described, photographed, categorized, listed and stored. This is a lot of time invested in each item purchased at "Garage Sales", and that time is multiplied by a factor of however many items you purchase in that lot for $50. Therefore, for each 20 item lot you purchase for $50, you will spend approximately 20 hours of your time getting those items listed on eBay. How much is your time worth? Lets say you value your time at a very low $10 per hour, now your investment in these 20 items is worth in excess of $250, not including the time or gas money spent in finding the original "Garage Sale". Will each lot or haul from these "Garage Sales" net even one item which will return your investment in time and cash? Will all of the items sell on the first listing on eBay? How much more money will you invest in eBay fee's and charges to sell these used cast off "Garage Sale" items? - Garage Saleing is a fun pass-time for the retired and a possible business endeavor for people who work at Flea Markets, but for eBay it is a losing proposition. Suggesting that eBay sellers should source product using this method is similar to suggesting to gamblers that they can get rich by playing bingo.

SEO and Traffic Generating Offers on eBay – Lisa Page Daily Home Business Blog.

I was reading one of my favorite business blogs this morning - Lisa Page Daily Home Business Blog.

Lisa has a post on her blog about traffic generation and how to get page rank.  While in general, I agree with the post on Lisa's blog, I do not agree, especially for eBay sellers, that having high page rank is the primary concern.  I commented on Lisa's blog post... Go ahead on over and check it out!

Can anyone clean up on eBay?

Can anyone clean up on eBay?

  • If you sell collectibles like this Hummel - You could
  • If you find a niche you enjoy - You might
  • But if you're a brick and mortar business already - you will!

Brick and mortar retailers, wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers need to be aware that they already have 90% of the required ingredients to become very successful eBay and eCommerce retailers. In house these businesses already have the manpower, the sources of supply, the shipping capabilities and the product knowledge required to become a successful Internet marketing organization.

If you own or work for any kind of brick and mortar business mentioned above... You should look at adding eBay and then eCommerce to your business! Another stream of income could not be a bad thing and the brand exposure worldwide is always a good thing.

The Demise of eBay Has Been Grossly Exagerated – Long Live eBay!

ebayWhy do so many journalists and "experts" feel they must report eBay's demise on a seemingly daily basis?

I can assure you it will be a long long time before eBay goes the way of the Wooley Mammoth!  With more focused searches per day than even google or yahoo (Heck, maybe more than Google and Yahoo Combined), eBay is a long way from extinct. Sure they are top heavy in management and they have some really poor ideas from time to time, but so do Microsoft and Apple and they do not seem to be as endangered or near extinction as some journalists and technology pundits once thought those two other struggling companies could be.

Stick with eBay and use it to your business advantage!

eBay is a tool, it is advertising, it is a way to market to the world from your small or large storefront or from no store at all!

Use eBay in good health, just as 5.4 million unique visitors did on a single day last week!

EBay: Nielsen/NetRatings reports 5.4M unique visitors to eBay on Black Friday

    Last Updated: 27-November-2007 16:11:00

NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - EBay Inc. said it was the most visited e-commerce site on Black Friday with 5.4 million unique visitors, citing information from Nielsen/NetRatings. EBay also said data from PayPal showed a 33% increase in online payment volume on Black Friday from a year earlier.

EBay said its sites, which include Shopping.com and PayPal, saw an increase in Cyber Monday traffic from a year earlier, with Shopping.com reporting a 28% increase. Traffic to merchants over the entire holiday weekend rose 30% year-over-year.

The company said, however, that the busiest shopping day of the season it still to come. EBay expects to see higher activity on Green Monday, the second Monday in December, as revenue and shopper traffic on Green Monday have outpaced Cyber Monday for the past few years.

Shares of eBay were up 3.5% to $32.08. Christie Rizk cr/jw COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007. All rights reserved.
