Internet Merchants Association Lost 89% of Membership – 49% Went to PESA

According to our recent Trading Assistant Journal/Polldaddy.com Poll,

...with over 10% of the IMA membership responding, we can predict that the IMA has lost almost 50% of its membership to PeSA. With over 89% of the membership (who responded to our poll) leaving altogether...

And then there were 2...

Only 2 of the respondents stated they will stay with the IMA while 17% of the respondents said they would never join an association or group again.

The questions and results are as follows: (This poll is still open, if you are an IMA member and would like to respond, please follow the link above and give us your reply).

  • Already Joined the ECMTA/PeSa Organization 14 votes = 48%
  • Done with associations and groups altogether 5 Votes = 17%
  • No - I have my Refund or Applied 5 Votes = 17%
  • Looking Elsewhere 2 Votes = 7%
  • Yes - I will Stay with the IMA 2 Votes = 7%
  • Other - "Will Make a Decision when my subscription expires" 1 Vote = 3%

These responses to our unscientific poll indicates 89% of our sampling have left the IMA and with a response from 10% of the prior healthy membership, I would say the IMA is in for some serious membership retention issues.

We have heard from our readers the Internet Merchants Association is offering a special rate to renew an active membership of only $49.99.

This may sound like a good idea under the current circumstances but our advisor's tell us that if as a 501C(6) Non-Profit trade organization any member is offered a reduced rate for membership, all members (current and future) from that point forward must be given the membership deal, otherwise the IMA will lose the coveted as a 501C(6) Non-Profit trade organization status they fought so diligently for. The same Non- Profit designation which restricts the organization from making so many smart business decisions for its membership.

If, even at a $49.99 renewal rate, over 89% of the membership has decided to move on to other endeavors, what would the point be to continue offering a reduced membership price?

Our Poll is not over so if any currently loyal members of the IMA would like to respond to give the world a better understanding of where this trade group is heading, please take a moment to give us a simple poll response.

Trading Assistant Journal/Polldaddy.com Poll,

These Poll results are a simple statistical representation of our reader opinion. Actual results may vary, no representation of actual membership numbers has been made here.

Still waiting for my refund – guess they don’t know how to write a check. My life is so much better without the drama that was the IMA! Thanks for kicking me out for asking for free and open elections. Glad to be rid of them.

Do you believe your own polls with such a skewed sample set of participants ?

Don’t fool yourself folks IMA is alive and better than ever.

The poll has been open to all IMA members since July 27th. We only reported the results as of August 6th in this article.

In addition we noted that the poll was still open for any IMA member to register their honest opinions.

I see nothing skewed in that methodology. Unless, of course, IMA members had been voting more than once. I did not see any evidence of that behavior.

No one is fooling anyone here, we simply are reporting the results in an open forum.

Thanks for reading the Trading Assistant Journal!

    Scott,

I read your blog quite often and I am an IMA member. I can tell you that IMA is alive and well. The forums are busy with posts and everyone is getting along just fine. I think that your poll results are way off because I do beleive that most of the IMA members that posted to your poll were former members who did leave. There are roughly 200 IMA members and many never speak up and just lurk on the forums. Just because they did not see your poll or chose not to vote does not mean 89% of the membership has been lost. Your post would have been better titled “IMA loses 89% of the 14% of the total IMA members polled”. Your poll is way off Scott.

    @ Chris Allen

The lead in explains the poll best…

According to our recent Trading Assistant Journal/Polldaddy.com Poll,…with over 10% of the IMA membership responding, we can predict that the IMA has lost almost 50% of its membership to PeSA. With over 89% of the membership leaving altogether…

Polls are predictors, based upon statical analysis of reported results. When the results change, we will report those figures as well.

We are aware of the traffic which originates on the IMA boards to our site. I don’t think we are unknown to the IMA members. When we launched this poll we saw significant traffic from your forums.

It was, and still is the intention of the poll to allow the members of the IMA an opportunity to register anonymous opinions about their status with the organization.

We did not enter the data, we only sponsored the poll.

Thanks for your interest, and for reading the Trading Assistant Journal.

This post proves the adage – Figures don’t lie, but Liars can figure.

    Look at this quote:
These responses to our unscientific poll indicates 89% of our sampling have left the IMA and with a response from 10% of the prior healthy membership, I would say the IMA is in for some serious membership retention issues.

    Now look at this headline:
Internet Merchants Association Lost 89% of Membership – 49% Went to PESA

So if the IMA has 200 people, let’s do the math:

    200 x 10% responding = 20 people responded

Of those 20% who responded 89% left the IMA –
    20 x 89% left = 17.8 people left

Which is actually 8% of the total membership not 89%

You can not jump to the conclusion that 20 people who responded are a sampling of all of the members.

Although this is a un-scientific poll, you still have to a have a proper samplying of people before announcing results including a margin of error.

Please no more polls unless you know what you doing!

    @Lois,

You have a point, and I have amended the opening paragraph to read as follows:

According to our recent Trading Assistant Journal/Polldaddy.com Poll,…with over 10% of the IMA membership responding, we can predict that the IMA has lost almost 50% of its membership to PeSA. With over 89% of the membership (who responded to our poll) leaving altogether…

At the time of this article these numbers were accurate. Apparently since our poll follow up article was published a few additional IMA members have responded with the stated intention to stay with the organization.

We will report further at a later date.

I can tell you this poll has them yapping…and trying to still salvage hope with those who have stayed.

The current BOD are wimps, and hiding….hiding behind large $ they have collected, stored and not spent to the member’s benefits…hiding behind all the lies they have already told and cannot find their way out of…hiding by trying to say the remaining 3 are the only ones who did/do any work…hiding behind the lie that there is still a full BOD — this is still showing on the website…hiding behind what is shown as the current member count…hiding behind the non-profit status — which appears to be in violation with the renewal offer…hiding in Cancun — maybe all 3 BOD for all we know 😉

Only a few IMA members have the guts to speak up. And it’s sad to see how others can turn so easily on those who were ousted, or left in solidarity for what was right and truthful.

    There will come a day…….
